Know the job before you build it

What you are building

A WhatsApp AI agent answers the messages customers send to a business's
WhatsApp number. The customer chats exactly as they always have. On the other side,
instead of a person typing every reply, an agent reads the message, looks up the
business's facts, and answers.

In this course you build one for Ima's Kitchen, a food business in Uyo that
sells party trays and small chops and delivers across the city. Ima gets the same
twenty questions every day, and every one of them takes her away from the kitchen.

What the agent does

  • Answers from the business's facts: prices, opening hours, delivery areas, how to pay. You write those facts down once, in a knowledge base.
  • Remembers the conversation. If a customer asks "Do you deliver to Ewet Housing?" and then "How much is it?", the agent knows "it" means delivery to Ewet Housing.
  • Hands over to a person when it should: a complaint, a payment problem, a special request, or a question the knowledge base cannot answer. The customer is told someone will reply, and staff are alerted.
  • Waits for the customer to finish typing. People send "Hi", then "I want to order", then "2 trays" as three messages. The agent waits a few seconds and answers all three in one reply.

What it does not do

  • It does not see photos or listen to voice notes. It is told a photo or voice note arrived, and it can ask the customer to type the question instead.
  • It does not invent answers. If the fact is not in the knowledge base, a well set-up agent hands over rather than guessing a price or a promise.
  • It does not message people out of the blue. WhatsApp only lets a business reply freely to someone who wrote first. Lesson 2 explains why.

Whose account is it?

Everything the agent needs belongs to the business, not to you and not to
RAiN: the WhatsApp number, the Meta app that connects it, and the customer
conversations. If you are setting this up for a client, create the Meta app in the
business's own Meta account and have them add you. That way, if you move on,
the business keeps its WhatsApp line.

Where you build it

You build the agent in RAiN AI Studio, starting from a ready-made template
called WhatsApp AI Agent. On Day 2 you open it, see how its pieces fit, and make
it sound like the business.
